Happy as a what?

I have returned to America and am relearning the English I lost while abroad, but I still have some golden “English” slangs to give you before this book goes barren. Today’s phrase is about happiness. I am happy, you might be happy. The 76ers surely are happy, while the LA Clippers might be less happy.

Have you ever been as “happy as a clam?”The meaning of this one is very simple, though I question the choice of animal. The band NoFX once questioned the fact that the clam even has feelings (see “Clams have feelings too”). I have heard “happy as a bird”, “happy as a duck” and “happy as a polar bear” (some of those are lies).

Here is my incredible example:

Wallace: “I just got accepted to this insanely top-secret great organization. I am seriously as happy as a clam.”

Riley: “I just got rejected to a similarly top-secret organization. I am as sad as a Tyrannosaurus Rex.”

Happy as a gut worm? Happy as a sloth?

    English often makes little sense.

I believe the historical simile is happy as a clam at high tide.

Stolen from answers.com: This alludes to the fact that clams can only be dug at low tide and therefore are safe at high tide; it is often shortened to happy as a clam.

Cool picture and stuff. I found it while I was searching up a picture of a clam. It’s for a project ‘It’s All the Same to the Clam’ by Shel Silverstein! Well, anyways, cool pictures and posts.
