Getting free chicken feet: Is this punishment?

Weekly or bi-weekly, we go to our local restaurant, usually with Linda and Steven and get to practice our Chinese by ordering our food without pointing to a menu or having a Chinese person come to our aid.

Pretty often, the ordering goes something like this:
Colette: “Gong bao ji ding, mei fan, hai you bing de ke la.”
“Kung pow chicken, rice and a cold coke.”
Clerk: “Hao de. Hai you ma?”
“Ok. Anything else?”

Lee: “Yu xiang rou si, bu yao mei fan, hai you bing de pu tao he.”
“Fish Flavored Pork, no rice and a grape juice.”
Clerk: “Hao de. Hai you?”
“Ok. What else?”

John: “Tie ban rou pian. Bing de ke la.”
“Pork and vegetable skillet. Cold cola.”
Clerk: “Hao de.”

Minutes later, after we sit down, the first dish comes out; usually the chicken or my pork. We start chowing down quickly as we lost the courtesy to wait until all food arrives months ago. Then before the tie ban rou pian shows up, we’re presented with a platter of BBQ chicken feet. Shao kao, barbecue as it is called, is usually good, but always spicy. The chicken feet, however, are disgusting. So every-time we are given the chance to eat, we don’t.

Friends don’t let friends eat chicken feet.

BBQ Chicken feet ? That’ won’t be any good. The skins would be too dry. The best part about chicken feet is the skin and tendon, when it is tasty and succulent. That means either stewed with sauce, with or without deepfrying them first, or in soup. And you can use many different kinds of sauce.
