Picture of white glasses If you’ve seen my recent photos, you may have come to see that I have changed my look a little with the addition of some crazy white glasses (bai se yan jing). I decided I was pretentious enough in China to wear them proudly. Pretentious means even more silly foreigner treatment. They are seen in that photo, however, I’m not quite as facial-hairy right now. But I will be soon, I’m leaving tomorrow for Thailand for 2 weeks.

I’ve been slighty busy over here recently with dating and stuff and school finishing up. By the way, I own Babi Bar, the coolest or 2nd coolest bar in Wuhan. The most cool bar, Soho, will soon be mine. Watch out

PS: I’m a little excited about the MacBookAir.

I am the captain of discipline

Date January 10, 2008

Kids can be naughty, even Chinese children. And teachers can get mad, even happy, happy Lee. When the other teachers get mad at students, they berate them in Chinese until the kid is red as a tomato or even occasionally cries.

However, most of the time, I am a jovial, jump-around-the-room teacher. On this certain, there was a different story; I was all alone in a 4th grade class. This class has my favorite student, Annie, but also some of my least favorites.

One boy, whose name I don’t know was drawing, drawing, drawing and would hide his paper when I came by. Then on the last time, I asked him to give me the picture and he said “no.” When I told him to give it, he said “no.” I walked away.

5 minutes later, he pulled the paper back out, drew more and I caught him. I told him to get out of the class. He didn’t understand because on top of being a misbehaver, he also doesn’t do well at learning English. So, I went to his desk made him stand up and then I walked him out… as we got to the door, he tried to grab onto a desk, but I just kept him moving until he was outside.

He was too scared to move from the position right outside the door and I never let him back in. The other students were impressed with this effort and I got a mini-applause. It was kind of awesome.

Friday Night Lights with LiyoZhiShen

Date January 5, 2008

We went out with Yoyo’s boy toy, LiyoZhiShen, on Friday. First he was busy getting his hair did, which looked pretty good I must say, but finally we found him outside the salon.

We wanted to go to a bar, but he suggested KTV. KTV is like lame karaoke, where you rent a room and sing sing sing. Me and Colette did a Fall Out Boy and a Gym Class Heroes song, but both were miserable. Later, after a return from the bathroom, I was thrusted into “You are not alone” by Michael Jackson, which I knew too well I think.

We left for a bar called “77,” which seemed promising upon entrance, but quickly dissapointed with lame performances by some boy singer. B Rock, a new homeboy of mine, and Coma/King (he changed his name when he learned the meaning of “coma”) wanted to find me a girl so we walked around and didn’t find one. We did however get this flaming shot thing, which was cool, but hard to photograph.

Then we ate some street kebab, which all sort of tasted the same and was very spicy. I took a taxi home and slept ’till 1:45.

2008

Date January 1, 2008

In China, we have just reached the new year. It is 2008 and as far as I can tell, it is my year and yours. In just two weeks, I will be leaving Red China for 2 glorious weeks of travel in Thailand with Colette and possibly Tami. I have no set plans for my trip, but it will involve trains, planes, and automobiles; SASers, Colette universi-pals and one of my least favorite teachers from SAS.

In a look back at 2007, I’d like to remember the days when I taught children about cod, Santa Claus, Thanksgiving, trousers, shuttlecocks, and that “seven boys names are called Steven.” In the next few weeks, I will be taking more pictures, writing more posts, and sharing more glory with everyone.

Happy New Year!
