At approximately 11:43pm on Monday September 24, I realized I hadn’t been sleeping for the last hour, but instead clutching my covers with my toes as my feet were freezing. This was unusual as I am usually unusually warm. I tucked my feet in tightly and finally woke again around 12:30am to put on socks. At 1:45am, still awake, I decided to put on more clothes and to shut off the A/C.

For the last two weeks, Burmese monks have been peacefully marching in Yangon in hopes for a change in their military rule. It began in response to the doubling of oil prices to a people that couldn’t afford the prior price. Along the two weeks, they gained more and more support of the people as the students began marching with them daily. Then last week, Aung San Suu Kyi, the house-arrested and pro-democracy President-elect since 1990, showed her support by coming out of her house to watch the monks walk on to the Shwedagon Pagoda.
